Government Services Made Accessible to Non-Smartphone Users through Gava Express
President William Ruto has introduced Gava Express, a new initiative that enables non-smartphone owners to access government services. Modeled after Huduma Centers, Gava Express aims to provide services at the grassroots level, unlike its counterparts primarily based in county headquarters. The President emphasized that Gava Express will collaborate with the private sector to establish over 300,000 outlets.
Gava Express will be available at various locations, including more than 250,000 Mpesa shops, 28,000 KCB shops, 40,000 Equity shops, and 22,000 Cooperative bank shops. The goal is to expand government services beyond official government offices by leveraging partnerships with private-sector establishments.
This achievement reflects Kenya’s significant progress in digital access since the Kenya Kwanza administration assumed office. On Jamhuri Day last year, President Ruto pledged to digitize and make 5,000 government services accessible through the E-Citizen platform. This move aims to enhance service delivery, increase revenue collection, promote transparency, and combat corruption.
As Ministries, Departments, and Agencies onboard their respective services onto the platform, there has been a notable increase in revenue generated from levies and fees associated with government services.
